Travelling With Your Baby - My Tips & Tricks

Before your baby arrives it’s hard to picture what life will be like.

After all, no two babies are the same and what your bestie may have been able to do, could be worlds apart from what your newborn will tolerate - but that’s why we love them, right? It would be incredibly dull if every baby was the same, at least that’s what I told myself when mine was up 6 to 8 times a night for the first year of his life.

A year before our son was born we had booked a festive trip to our favourite part of Cornwall following a brilliant time that year. We knew we wanted to have children and gambled on me either being pregnant, or us having a small baby in tow. We ended up travelling with our 2 ½ month old and whilst the holiday was wildly different to any prior, in hindsight it was the perfect time to go away with him.

Crucially, within the first 3 months, your baby will typically spend the majority of their time asleep, which makes going out for meals a lot easier - you’ll just end up nailing eating one-handed!

Beforehand we were the type to jump in the car and go and go and go until we reached our destination 5 hours later. Not possible when you have a baby in tow! This did mean we ended up finding a beautiful picturesque village to stop in for the night on the way down. Staying in a 450-year-old pub is all fun and games until you’re up until 3 am trying to keep your baby warm thanks to paper-thin windows! Even still, it was a lovely pit stop in what ended up being a very long journey. One thing you’ll come to realise is that you very quickly recognise which service stations will have the best baby changes and which ones to avoid like the plague!
